An elegant look from Mariah and quite conservative - for her anyway. She wore a blue Valentino Haute Couture gown with slit to the leg, masses of silver bling, a metallic Judith Leiber clutch and some gold Christian Louboutin peep-toes.

Mariah's jewelry was a mix of items from Chopard, Fred Leighton and Van Cleef & Arpels.

With such similar gown and poses Mariah and Christina were almost like mirror images of one another but acessories and hairstyles ensured each of the curvy stars made the look their own.

Mariah wore sparkling Kwiat jewels, metallic heels and carried a really cute red crystal covered bag.

And Mad Men's resident bombshell, who won a Best Ensemble Cast Award with her co-stars, carried a René Caovilla clutch with her Carolina Herrera gown.

Irit Design jewelry and Louboutin peep-toes completed her look.

The AMAs Trends - Sparkle and Shimmer

Ultra glam sparkle was the major theme of the night for the 2008 American Music Awards and there were two categories of the theme - Gold and Glitz and Shimmering Silver.

Those is the first category included Paris Hilton and Miley Cyrus, who unlike Paris opted for just a little of the golden touch.
And the second silver category was overfilled with stars.

Christina Aguilera wore Elie Saab Couture and Pink opted for super glam in a beaded Vivienne Westwood gown.

Leona Lewis wore a pale shimmering Jenny Packham dress teamed with Swarovski clutch.

Mariah Carey added a little signature sparkle to her figure hugging black Dolce & Gabbana gown and Taylor Swift was all out sparkling in a sequined silver Colette Dinnigan mini dress.
